Setting Up of Aiims in the States

The Government of India is setting up six AIIMS, one each at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh); Bhubaneswar (Odisha); Jodhpur (Rajasthan); Patna (Bihar); Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and Rishikesh (Uttarakhand) in the first phase of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakshya Yojana (PMSSY), at an estimated cost of Rs. 840 crore each, including provision of Rs. 20 crore for Nursing College. 

Government of India has also approved setting up of two more AIIMS at Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh) and Raigunj (West Bengal) in the second phase of PMSSY at an estimated cost of Rs. 823 crore each. 

First batch of MBBS students (50 in number) was admitted at each six new AIIMS during 2012-13. Second batch of MBBS students (100 in number) and first batch of B. Sc. Nursing students (60 in number) have also been admitted at each six new AIIMS during 2013-14. 

Out Patient Departments (OPD) in the hospitals of each new AIIMS are functional in respect of several specialties.

 In respect of AIIMS Rae Bareli project the State Government of UP has transferred 98 acres of land for setting up AIIMS in Rae Bareli district.

 The Central Government has appointed Project Management Consultant for the project. The work for construction of housing complex is in progress. 

State Government of West Bengal has not yet allocated land for setting up of AIIMS at Raiganj. 

Each new AIIMS which is an autonomous body under the AIIMS (Amendment) Act 2012, now has its own Standing Selection Committee for recruitment in faculty posts. 

Government have directed strict compliance with reservation policy in respect of the relevant posts. 

This was stated by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha today.
